Objectives
To help the Afro Mexican communities that have been marginalized and forgotten obtain a better way of life through economic development, culture and education. To be Acknowledged by all the states and federal government of Mexico as Afro Mexicans. To Expand the knowledge of Mexicans about the African roots of many communities that have resided in Mexico for centuries.

Where are the Afro Mexicans?
The Afro Mexican communities are located in the poorest parts of Mexico. One of these zones is called "Costa Chica" located in the states of Guerrero y Oaxaca.

There are no Afro Mexicans?
That's what some Mexicans say but I guess they have not traveled to Veracruz, Guerrero o Oaxaca.

Is there racism in Mexico?
Civil rights organizations in Oaxaca like Mexico Negro, Africa AC and Purpura AC are working hard to fight racism against Afro Mexicans but the battle is long and they need as much help as possible. These organizations are even fighting against Mexican politicians that promote xenophobia and do not acknowledge that are Mexicans with African roots.

Afro Mexicans in History
Some of our Mexican heroes are of African descent like: President Vicente Guerrero, Interim President Juan Alvarez, Jose Maria Morelos y Pavon, and others.

Are Afro Mexicans counted on the Census?
In the most recent Mexican Census 2010 the Afro Mexicans were again ignored and not counted. The high degree of race mixing in Mexico is one of the reasons why it is hard to quantify the population of African roots. However, the census does count the indigenous population in Mexico. Because Afro Mexicans are not counted it is hard for these communities to get government help.
